Cooper Oil Project
The Cooper Oil Project is one of Santos’s most important initiatives for the state and major works are being conducted in the south-west of Queensland and the Moomba area, also known as the Cooper Oil Basin.
The automated rigs and numerous oil wells produce tens of thousands of barrels of oil every day, with that number expected to reach 30,000 barrels per day by the end of the decade. Such high levels of production required that DPD design 33 kV, 11 kV and 400 V overhead and underground electrical reticulation to supply the oil wells, water injection wells and power the camp accommodations.
DPD’s designs were for overhead and underground power lines which would allow over 90 oil wells to be connected to locally generated mains power, via a high voltage overhead network.
The final overhead power line systems designs cover over 100 km of reticulation. During the course of the Cooper Oil Project, DPD has been working closely with a team of other companies including Santos, Cowell Electric Supply Company, Fyfe Surveyors, O & G Solutions and Diversified Construction Company, to keep to a very tight timeframe, while working in very remote areas.
